What Norrsken is
Norrsken is an internal business intelligence tool that ESS Group developed and runs for its own use. It is not a product, it is not sold or licensed, and it is not third-party software. There is no public sign-up and there are no external users: access requires corporate single sign-on and is limited to authorised ESS Group employees.
What data it processes
Norrsken collects data from the systems we already use to run the business, so that we can report on it in one place:
- Booking and revenue data from our internal booking system.
- Guest survey responses.
- Web analytics for our own websites.
- Marketing performance data from Meta, Google and our customer engagement platform, Braze.
- Customer data from our internal CRM.
The purpose of the processing is aggregate reporting and analysis.
Google user data
Norrsken reads performance data for properties ESS Group owns through Google APIs. It retrieves search performance data for our own websites from Google Search Console, and, as we connect them, advertising performance data from Google Ads and listing and review data for our own venues from Google Business Profile. We request read-only access.
- How we access it
- Only an authorised ESS Group employee can connect a Google account, and only for properties ESS Group owns. Norrsken requests read-only scopes and never writes back to Google.
- How we use it
- Only for internal reporting inside Norrsken: following how our own websites, campaigns and venues perform. We do not use it to target individuals with advertising, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.
- How we store it
- The data we retrieve is stored in our own database, hosted in Europe. Access to it inside Norrsken is limited to authorised ESS Group employees signed in through corporate single sign-on.
- How we share it
- We do not. Data obtained through Google APIs is not sold, shared or transferred to any third party. It stays inside Norrsken.
- How we delete it
- If the connected Google account revokes our access, or if you ask us to, we delete the copy we have stored.
Where the data is stored
The data is stored in our own PostgreSQL database, hosted in Europe. The systems we pull data from are separate services with their own storage and their own terms.
What we do not do
- We do not sell data or share it with third parties.
- We do not use the data to target individuals with advertising.
- The tool is not open to the public.
Data controller and your rights
ESS Group is the data controller for this processing. Guests who want to request access to or deletion of their data can do so through ESS Group’s usual channel for data protection requests.
